whats the deal with everyone working out nowadays?  when i was in college we would laugh at the guys who were in the gym everyday, now u cant go to a bar without a sixpack and bitching pecs. – couch tater

Honestly, I don’t get it either. I find in-shape people more attractive than non in-shape people, but I find muscles (the aforementioned sixpack and bitching pecs) for the sake of muscles very unattractive. Someone who is health conscious rocks. But gym-rats freak me out. I think it has to do with the rising trend in celebrating everything that is superficial. We feel like we have control over our bodies and if we develop those, then we somehow are worth more than the schlub eating chili fries. But when it comes down to it, I would rather hang out with the chili-fried schlub than anyone else.

I go to the gym though. Once or twice a week. Not to sculpt myself into some kind of narcissitic ideal, but because I’d like to think I can take the stairs up to my office without getting too winded.  Unfortunately, this is not true yet. But I am totally getting there.

Um, sorry. Back to you, asker-of-question. My answer is that I don’t get it either. But you should keep laughing at those people. In about fifteen years, they are either going to have confront the reality of aging or they are going to invest in some plastification. Either way, I promise you that they worry way more about their looks than you ever will. I mean… who shows off their bitching pecs at a bar? Someone who wants other people to notice. That’s great.

Enjoy your chili fries. You are probably having way more fun.
