Via the interwebs, I found this “gender guesser.”
It works simply: you input about 300 words of your writing and it “determines” your “gender” (a binary, of course).
My results: in informal writing I am a “weak male,” for formal writing I am “male.”
Lord Byron: informal “male”; formal “weak male.”
Saint Augustine: informal “female”; formal “weak female.”
Virginia Woolf: totally male. No weakness. Just male.
I find it interesting that “weakness” on the website is qualified as possibly inferring that the author is “European.”
I didn’t find that many non-canonical writers in Bartleby, and they are my primary source for free lit. Hooray accurate “gender” tests!
