Adri: I heard that nalgene was hazardous to your health. Is that true? – Curio
I’m not sure, I poked around and found this. My friend Joe swears that nalgene is terrible. But here’s what my friendly scientist friend has to say:
Sometimes, these “dangerous” chemicals really aren’t and people still get their panties in a wad, and sometimes they’re actually pretty bad for you. I really don’t know a definite answer on this one, but I think that drinking liquids from your Nalgene bottle should probably be safe. Nalgene themselves claim that it’s all good ( http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/technical/bpaInfo.html ), and although you can’t always trust a company whose livelihoods depend on a product they do give some links from a variety of sources. One thing that I found is that the Dutch seem to say that polycarbonate baby bottles are perfectly safe (http://www.vwa.nl/cdlpub/servlet/CDLServlet?p_file_id=10413). The Dutch feeling ok about letting babies chew on the stuff because in most cases it doesn’t leak BPA, makes me feel pretty safe about drinking water from mine.
