1. You're not a traitor. When you're team moves, you can dump them because they clearly did everything to dump you. There's no good reason to move a pro football team OUT of Texas.

2. I guess football IS like an opera. When done poorly on a big stage, it lasts WAAAAAAY too long. The best thing about soccer in the new technology age is that there's a running clock, so there's no commercial break at any point except halftime.

3. It doesn't matter in most places, but you're underestimating the places that it matters. When the Cowboys are bad, you can feel it all over Texas. Take it from a former Odessa/Midland sportscaster who would have random people come up to me at dinner and ask me about Terrell Owens and Jessica Simpson. Other places where the mood of the city is dictated by its NFL team have franchises with long, rich histories: NY Jets/Giants, Philly, Chicago, Minnesota, New England, Denver and Kansas City. And I'm probably leaving others out because I'm not familiar with the fan base. As your immersion continues, you'll see how big the NFL really is in this country.

4. I'm ridiculously excited about your social experiment and encourage you to use me as a guide to the league when necessary.... or even unnecessary. Whatever.

I don't think it matters as much in most places as it does here. The only tangible example I can think of in the US are the Red Sox or the Packers. But that's about it, really.

I'm always amazed at the city's mood after a game. Maybe it's like that everywhere, but I don't recall that big of a change depending on the Redskins (although, in the dourness that is DC, and the Redskins penchant for losing, maybe that's the case after all).
